How the summary is generated
The recording is transcribed first, using OpenAI Whisper, Microsoft MAI-Transcribe 1.5, or Google Gemini 3.5 Transcribe, depending on which model you choose. Once the transcript is ready, it is passed to an AI model that reads the whole thing and writes a short summary — typically 3 to 5 sentences — covering the main points raised. The summary is written in the same language as the recording.
The "Generate summary" option is already checked below. Upload your file, wait for the job to finish, and you will get both the transcript and the summary as separate downloads from the same results page.
Need specific tasks and decisions pulled out instead of a general overview? Use the action items generator — same upload flow, different output format.
What the summary covers
- The main topics raised during the call or recording.
- A short paragraph, not a line-by-line rewrite of the transcript.
- Written in the same language the recording was spoken in.
It will not catch every task someone agreed to do — for that level of detail, the action items tool extracts a numbered list of tasks and decisions instead of a narrative summary.
Who this is for
- People who missed a meeting and need the gist without watching the recording back.
- Anyone sending a recap email after a call and wanting a starting point instead of a blank page.
- Podcasters and interviewers who want a short blurb to go with a full episode transcript.
Frequently asked questions
How does the meeting summary generator work?
- You upload an audio or video recording of the meeting. convert.express transcribes it first, then sends the transcript to an AI model that writes a 3–5 sentence summary of the main topics discussed. Both the full transcript and the summary are ready to download from the same job.
Do I need the full transcript, or can I get just the summary?
- The transcription always happens first, since the summary is generated from it — but you get both files. If you only care about the summary, just ignore the transcript download and grab the summary text file.
What does the summary look like?
- A short paragraph, typically 3–5 sentences, covering the topics and points raised in the recording. It is not a bullet-by-bullet breakdown of every minute — for that, use the action items option, which extracts specific tasks and decisions as a numbered list.
Which languages are supported?
- Transcription supports 57+ languages via Whisper (43 via MAI-Transcribe 1.5, 60 via Gemini 3.5 Transcribe). The summary is written in the same language as the recording, so a French meeting gets a French summary.
Is this free?
- Yes to start — every account gets 10 free minutes of transcription per day, and summary generation on top of that costs nothing extra. Beyond the daily free minutes, transcription is billed pay-as-you-go per minute of audio, with no subscription and no monthly minimum.
What happens to my recording afterward?
- Files are deleted automatically within 24 hours and are never used to train AI models.
