How the action list is generated
The recording is transcribed first, using OpenAI Whisper, Microsoft MAI-Transcribe 1.5, or Google Gemini 3.5 Transcribe, depending on which model you choose. Once the transcript is ready, it is passed to an AI model that scans it specifically for action items, decisions, and tasks, and returns them as a numbered list. If nothing that qualifies was discussed, it says so instead of padding out the list.
The "Generate action list" option is already checked below. Upload your file, wait for the job to finish, and you will get both the transcript and the action list as separate downloads from the same results page.
Want a general overview instead of a task list? Use the meeting summary generator — same upload flow, different output format.
What counts as an action item
- Tasks someone agreed to do, with or without a stated deadline.
- Decisions made during the call that affect what happens next.
- Explicit follow-ups ("let's revisit this next week") mentioned out loud.
General discussion that did not result in a task or decision will not show up here — that is what the summary tool is for.
Who this is for
- Project and team leads who run a meeting and need a to-do list right after, not a transcript to comb through.
- Anyone following up on a client call who wants a checklist of what was promised.
- Researchers and students turning an interview or lecture into a concrete list of next steps.
Frequently asked questions
How does the action items generator work?
- You upload an audio or video recording of the meeting. convert.express transcribes it first, then an AI model reads the transcript and pulls out every action item, decision, and task it can find, formatted as a numbered list. Both the transcript and the action list are ready to download from the same job.
What if the recording has no action items?
- The tool will say so directly rather than inventing tasks that were not discussed — you get "No action items identified" instead of a padded-out list.
How is this different from the summary tool?
- The summary tool writes a short narrative paragraph about what was discussed. This tool instead scans for concrete commitments — who agreed to do what — and lists them as numbered items. Use summary for a quick overview and action items when you need a task list to follow up on.
Does it know who is responsible for each task?
- If the recording makes it clear in speech (e.g. "Sarah will send the report by Friday"), the action item usually reflects that. Since there is no separate speaker-attribution step feeding into this, accuracy depends on how explicitly assignments were stated out loud.
Which languages are supported?
- Transcription supports 57+ languages via Whisper (43 via MAI-Transcribe 1.5, 60 via Gemini 3.5 Transcribe). The action list is written in the same language as the recording.
Is this free?
- Yes to start — every account gets 10 free minutes of transcription per day, and action-item generation on top of that costs nothing extra. Beyond the daily free minutes, transcription is billed pay-as-you-go per minute of audio, with no subscription and no monthly minimum.
